It is time for Susan B. Anthony

Of course the first thing I did was collect images of Susan B. Here are six which gave me a different look. Notice only one of them (admittedly, it was an important one) showed Susan B. without her glasses.

Above is the sampler exactly has I had seen it last, surrounded by lots of thread and not many notes to myself.

The Time Has Come for Susan B.

I had thought all along that Susan B. would be much easier, except for one feature, and I didn't know how I was going to stitch it.

WHAT was I going to do about Susan B.'s glasses?

How was I going to make those tiny round glasses or could I be like Susan B's coin and leave off her glasses?

More about the glasses at a later time. When I gathered these images, I was trying to envision which image would look the best with ECS on my sampler.

(Did you notice I flipped the coin so it faces left instead of right?)

I had all the images so that they would fit (more or less) in the frame for Susan B. and I spent some time flipping through them.

I could see advantages to each image but in the end I chose the profile rather than a 3/4's face.  Why?  I thought two 3/4's faces looked too mechanical.

As is true of so much of life, it all was reversed from what I anticipated:  the glasses were the easiest element in the whole sampler (thanks to Jane Wood), the portrait of Susan B. quite simply the most difficult bit of stitching I've ever done.

Tomorrow: the finished sampler and then I will go back and describe some of my woes and decisions along the way. For example, what about all that blank space around the frames?
