Stitching ECS and Susan B. How Hard A Stitch is It?
This is probably my favorite sampler ever -- and it includes the most difficult bit of stitching I've done.
According to Jan who proof-stitched the sampler for me, it was an easy stitch all the way through.
Jan B. proofed the sampler, and here is hers, on her wall and with a pot of paper Sundflowers. I loved her frame job so I asked Colleen to frame mine also.
Thank you, Jan!!

Further Notes on My Sampler
Why is my sampler in this Patriotica Sale? Because it is in my opinion the most patriotic piece I've ever stitched.
These two remarkable women went a long way toward making it possible for me to become in full a citizen of the U.S., not only as a voting member of the society, but as Harriet has written, a woman with full rights as a citizen.
I look back on my own life and recall so many of the taboos for women in my youth and here we are, still struggling to find a pathway forward.
With the difficulites we still have, I marvel at these two women with their 'radical thoughts' for the Equality of Women two hundred years ago. Remember, they lived in a time when a woman was essentially the personal property of her husband, when she did not own the clothes on her back nor have say-so about her children. ECS's father would not let her continue her education because he believed it would hurt her chances of a good marriage.
In Ken Burns' video on ECS and Susan B., he said the two women were long forgotten. I don't believe that; I don't think they've ever been forgotten. I hope they never will be. Jan told me she stitched the sampler for her granddaughters, Carol told me she wishes to do the same.
I am keeping my sampler for a while longer and then it will go to its forever home in my alma mater's collections library. When I first finished it, I showed it to the librarian and she said the library would be honored to have it. Made my day.
